Brevard Community College (Florida) has suspended the director of a Palm Bay-based student resource center less than a day after he was arrested in connection to child sex-abuse charges.
Man charged with 300 counts of molestation of girls under 12
Melbourne Beach police arrested James Charles Wright-Roberts, 63, (former Michigan teacher/resident) Monday evening, accusing him of more than 300 counts of sexual battery and showing pornography to two girls younger than 12 years old. He has worked since 2005 at BCC’s Palm Bay Learning Lab, a resource center that provides extra assistance to college students, school officials confirmed. BCC had not had any complaints with Roberts during the time, according to a statement from the college.
“However, in consideration of the serious nature of the charges for which he was arrested and pursuant to our duties as a learning institution under the Florida Statutes, we have suspended Mr. Roberts without pay until further notice,” BCC director of marketing and media relations Kate Junco wrote in the statement. “During his suspension, the College will be exploring whether further action, including termination, is appropriate consistent with our obligations under Florida law.”
