Cases of alleged child abuse in Japan have risen to their highest level since records began 10 years ago.

Police figures indicate 187 children were the suspected victims of physical and sexual abuse in the first half of this year. Eighteen children died.

The report also found that cases of child pornography in the same period had risen by about 60% to 599 cases.

NASHUA – A man is accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old child and trying to rape her, and also stalking two other 11-year-old girls and photographing them.

Daniel Casanova, 35, of 6 Ash Court, was arraigned this morning in Nashua District Court on felony charges of kidnapping, and attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault, and two counts of stalking, both class A misdemeanors.

MASON, OHIO–State troopers arrested a man near Kings Island who was wanted on child rape charges.Authorities said Steven Davison Jr., who was taken into custody Wednesday, was wanted in Knox County on charges of rape, gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

A Carson City man was jailed Saturday night on suspicion of physically abusing his young stepdaughter.

David Phillip Gawdun, 23, was booked into the Carson City Jail at 9:55 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of felony child abuse with physical injury and misdemeanor domestic battery. According to the police report, Gawdun and his wife brought her 20-month-old daughter to the emergency room about 6 p.m. Saturday with injuries to her face.

The child had bruising under her left eye, on her left cheek, above her left eyebrow, on her left temple and head and on her left ear, according to the arrest report.

North Providence Fire Lieutenant Albert Peterson, 42, has been arrested and charged with child abuse towards his 15-year old son. The abuse has been described as physical.

According to North Providence Police, Peterson turned himself into police on Monday and was arraigned before a clerk magistrate on 2nd degree child abuse charges.

VERNAL — A Vernal woman was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for hanging her 5-year-old son upside down so long that his toes and parts of his feet had to be amputated. Eighth District Judge A. Lynn Payne sentenced Michele Napolitano, 32, to a total of 20 years on six counts of intentionally inflicting serious injury on a child.

Napolitano was arrested for not seeking medical treatment for serious injuries to the boy’s feet, which eventually required amputation of his toes. Investigators described his wounds similar to those seen on a “severe burn victim with open blisters and bleeding sores.”

A Rowan County couple faces child abuse charges after investigators found a 6-year-old boy living in what was described as “deplorable conditions,” the sheriff’s office says.

Ronald Eugene Burgess, 38, and Rhonda Dawn Burgess, 35, of Long Ferry Road near Salisbury, were arrested Tuesday, according to deputies. They face initial court appearances today.

According to Miami-Dade police, Lee Wille DeJesus told investigators he punched his son repeatedly, up to 15 times, while the boy was on a bed to teach him how to box.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – While Kari Richardson was out shopping her husband, Randel Eudean Richardson, 36, took their 6-month-old son and held him underwater in a laundry tub he had filled with cold water. After his son quit struggling, he left him their and waited for his wife to return home. When she found their son unresponsive, she called 911.

PRESCOTT – Prescott area authorities say a 2-year-old Dewey-Humboldt boy missing since Monday evening has been found dead.

Prescott Valley police say Emmitt Trapp was found around 11:30 a.m. by search and rescue personnel approximately one mile from his home.
