The “malicious” use of pharmaceuticals on children is an under-recognized form of child abuse, according to a study released Thursday.

New research that analyzes information from the U.S. National Poison Centre Data System from the past decade shows a small but steady number of children, median age two, who were found to have been exposed to at least one sedating agent, including street drugs, antipsychotics, cough medicines, and ethanol.

MILWAUKEE — Police say a Facebook feud erupted in violence in a hospital maternity ward. According to police, 20-year old Shava Wade used a fake name to get into the hospital. The victim, Kimball Lewis, 20, told police that Wade and three other women showed up in her hospital room and closed the door.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A 12-year-old girl used Facebook and an internet-enabled iPod to report a sexual assault by her mother’s ex-boyfriend. The girl told police she was home with Raymond Cesmat after her mother left for the night to stay over at her new boyfriend’s house.

PORT RICHMOND, N.Y. (WPIX) -FDNY officials say a fire that ripped through a second-floor apartment in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island early Thursday morning — resulting in the deaths of four children and their mother — was intentionally set by the woman’s 14-year-old son, who in turned committed suicide.

Not once, but four separate times. Dallas, TX – The 911 call went a little like this: “I kill my both kids. They are died.” Saiqa Akhter went on to tell the dispatcher that she tried to get the kids to drink bathroom cleaner, but they wouldn’t swallow – so she twisted a wire around their necks until “they are no more.” When the dispatcher asked her why she did it, Saiqa replied, “Both are autistic. I don’t want my kids to be like that. I want normal kids. I don’t want my kids to be autistic. I kill both of them.”

Terre Haute, IN – Tonya Smith, 37, was arrested and charged with child neglect after police learned she had left her three children alone in a garbage strewn home while she went and played at an amusement park nearly 100 miles away. On July 2nd, a neighbor informed a police officer that three young children had been left unsupervised at a nearby home. The officer made contact with two of the kids, ages 12 and 7, and they told him their mother had taken off at about 6:00 that morning and went to Holiday World. The kids were reportedly dirty and stinky – their heads covered in lice.

CHALMETTE, La. – After 22-year-old Tiffany Tommaseo dropped off her 2-year-old daughter at daycare, workers immediately noticed something wasn’t right. The girl was very lethargic and looked like she was in dire need of medical assistance. They contacted her mother and informed her that she needed to come attend to her daughter, but she told them she could not pick her up. So the little girl’s grandmother did and rushed her to the hospital.

Drug Ecstacy Tested As Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment

The test results are being called promising.

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — The drug Ecstasy or MDMA is being tested as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.
The small study, which appears in the Journal of Psychopharmacology, included 20 people with PTSD stemming from traumas such as sexual assault and combat stress.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Police are searching for a family of five who disappeared, leaving behind the body of a 3-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother.

A relative discovered the boy and his dead sister alone in the home Sunday morning.

Mother Stabs 10-year old Daughter, Kills Herself

CONCORD, Calif — Police say a 38-year old woman stabbed her only child in chest before killing herself in an attempted murder suicide.

The 10-year old girl told police that she had been asleep when her mother attacked her with a kitchen knife.

When a nightmare awoke 12-year-old Melissa Knight, she went to her father for comfort. Instead of consoling his daughter, he raped her – then threw her a dirty T-shirt to clean up with.
