Man, who was disabled after being shaken as a baby, dies

Michael Klymman was recognized as an  “outstanding” graduating student at the University of  Nevada, Reno.

Michael Klymman, who nearly 22 years ago was violently shaken as a baby and suffered permanent brain and physical disabilities as a result of the abuse, died Monday.

Michael, 22, was surrounded by his family at Renown Regional Medical Center, who joined together in prayer after he was taken off of life support. He had suffered from heart failure during the weekend, which caused a stroke.

“Baby Jane Doe” mystery solved

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The 17-year-old case of Baby Jane Doe is no longer a murder mystery.

Lisa Marie Huro-LeClair, after denying the child and any involvement in the case, acknowledged recently she left her infant’s dead body along a north McCulloch County road in 1993.

4-yr old boy, given sleeping pills by mother, dies

FORT LAUDERDALE —

After being charged with manslaughter for the death of her only child, bail was set at $21,000 for Raisa Bernabe at her first court appearance Friday.

Bernabe, 44, of Parkland, was ordered by Broward Magistrate Judge John “Jay” Hurley to surrender an expired passport and is not allowed to travel beyond South Florida.

Man charged in toddler death

Darius O. Brown, charged in toddler's death

NEWPORT NEWS — Police charged a 22-year-old Newport News man Thursday with murder in the death of a 1-year-old boy.

Darius Orlando Brown, of the 100 block of Tyler Avenue, is charged with murder and four counts of malicious assault, according to police. The toddler was found dead Tuesday in a basement-level apartment on Aqua Vista Drive. Brown, who is the child’s mother’s boyfriend, was taking care of him while she was at work.

Police searching for child rape suspect
FLORIDA–The Enterprise Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Tamarus Lee Johnson, who is wanted in connection with the July 18 rape of a 13-year-old female. Johnson was previously convicted of first-degree sexual abuse involving an 8-year-old, according to police.

A decorated EMT was charged Wednesday with a series of sick sex crimes – including an attack on an 11-year-old in an elevator he commandeered with his Fire Department key.

Angus Pascall, 33, was nabbed after one victim jotted down the plate number of his getaway car and was linked to five rapes and assaults through DNA and lineups, police said.

Brandon Hayes was inflicting grievous injuries on the 4 year old boy.

Father sentenced to 40 years in son’s death

BOULDER — A Boulder District judge on Wednesday afternoon sentenced a 27-year-old Lafayette man to 40 years in the 2009 child abuse death of his infant son. Boulder District judge Maria Berkenkotter’s decision came at the end of Benjamin Koller’s sentencing hearing, which lasted more than three hours.

Sex Offender Employment Act

Law keeps pervs from jobs with kids

The New York State Senate recently unanimously passed a bill that aims to protect children by making sure sex offenders are not hired for jobs where they would spend “significant” time with children. This bill, known as the Sex Offender Employment Act, will apply to those found guilty of child abuse and those on the New York State Sex Offender Registry or Statewide Central Registry of Child Abuse and Maltreatment.

Schools file 12,000 abuse reports

QUEENSLAND–

  • Forty per cent rise on last year’s figures
  • Small number of cases substantiated
  • Pressure on teachers to file reports

MORE than 12,000 reports of suspected child abuse were made by Queensland school staff over the past year – and that number is expected to rise.

The Education Department has revealed it is projecting more than 15,000 suspected child harm reports will have been made by staff in both private and state schools for last financial year.

Researchers find link between child abuse and heart disease

TORONTO, ON – Childhood physical abuse is associated with significantly elevated rates of heart disease in adulthood, according to new findings by University of Toronto researchers, published in this month’s issue of the journal Child Abuse & Neglect.

“Individuals who reported they had been physically abused as children had 45 per cent higher odds of heart disease than their peers who had not been abused, despite the fact we had adjusted for most of the known risk factors for heart disease,” says Professor Esme Fuller-Thomson, who holds the Sandra Rotman Chair at U of T’s Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work and Department of Family and Community Medicine.

More sex abuse allegations against retired priest

The Rev. Joseph Kelleher, charged this month with alleged child abuse in Albemarle in 1977, has now been accused of a second alleged incident involving a minor – this one, in 1981 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in east Charlotte.
