GRESHAM, Ore.  – Child abuse investigators said Monday a Gresham 5-year-old girl who died last week had been abused for years in what they said was the “worst case of child abuse that anyone can ever recall” in the area.

Detectives arrested the girl’s father, 23-year old Christopher Rosillo, and Guadalupe Quintero, a woman police said was a long-time live-in fiance of Rosillo’s.

The Trauma Myth: The Truth about the Sexual Abuse of Children—and Its Aftermath

Posted by Sandra On April - 19 - 2010 1 COMMENT

More controversy over Susan Clancy’s book which details her warped perception of child sexual abuse & the effects it has on children.

Beginning in the mid-1990s, Susan Clancy, now a psychology associate at Harvard, interviewed over 200 adults about memory and childhood sexual abuse experiences. Two-thirds of her interviewees were women. She solicited her subjects through a newspaper ad in the Boston Globe and other Boston-area newspapers. Unfortunately she does not completely describe her methodology, and her sample appears to have been biased.

Baby suffered broken ribs, fractured skull

Watertown, CT– On April 1, a nurse who routinely visited the home of Marci and Merle Stimpson became alarmed when she noticed large bruises on their 4-month old infant and swelling on the baby’s head. The nurse called 911 and the baby was taken to a hospital where doctors found that the infant had suffered 12 rib fractures, a skull fracture, a black eye and extensive bruising. Three of the rib fractures were caused by squeezing, a doctor told police.

When questioned, Merle Stimpson gave the investigators many excuses for the bruises, including that the family cat jumped on the child’s back, that he accidentally dropped the baby a lot because he’s a “klutz”, and then he blamed the baby’s medication saying it was known to cause bruising.

Azoulas David Yurashunas, 23, was luring the toddler away from the crowd as the frantic mother called out for her son. The pair made it as far as the parking lot when an alert parent, Chrystal Batchelor, spotted the two about to leave and instinctively grabbed the child. N.Y.–Surge in child brutality is worst in 25-years

Dad Larry Greene is accused of killing 7-month-old Xiah.

A veteran Queens prosecutor said Thursday that a recent surge in brutal child abuse cases – including four deaths – is the worst she has seen in the borough in 25 years.

At least eight Queens children have been badly beaten since Feb. 25, and authorities are unsure what to do to stop the disturbing upswing.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” said Marjory Fisher, chief of Special Victims Bureau in the Queens district attorney’s office.

Lift 30-yr statue of limitations on child abuse lawsuits?

The state legislature appears to have reached a reasonable compromise in debating whether to lift a 30-year statute of limitations on the filing of lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse.

Advocates for the change say having a statute of limitations in cases of child sexual abuse makes no sense. According to experts, it is common for child sexual abuse victims to suppress memories. Some children are unable to process the reality that a person they love or trust has violated them. They can feel guilty that they have done something wrong and fear turning to anyone.

FL–2 decades after shaking baby, abuser jailed again

Posted by Sandra On April - 19 - 2010 1 COMMENT

Christopher Wells, shown in this 2010 Florida Dept. of Corrections photo, is currently in jail on second-degree murder charges, after he left his daughter Christina with permanent brain-damaged after he violently shook her and covered her mouth to keep her from crying when she was two-months old. Christina never learned to walk, talk, or sit by herself and died in March 2006 at age 19.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Soon after Christina Welch turned 18 in the spring of 2005, her biological parents asked permission to pay her a visit. Mike and Tina Wells broke down when the bed covers were pulled back and they saw the state of the girl: so severely brain damaged as a baby that she never learned to walk, talk or sit up by herself.

Maureen Welch, the woman who had adopted her, walked into the kitchen to leave the three of them alone, thinking to herself that it was good the couple finally got to see what Mike Wells had done to his infant daughter.

Abuse reports are continuing to rise here, across nation

By John Gerstenmier
For the Salisbury Post

It’s difficult to talk about child abuse, but the subject is very important. And it is being talked about a lot this month because April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Unfortunately, child abuse is a fact of life in many Rowan County families, as in families across the state and nation.

Annually, more than 3.5 million children are reported to child protective services agencies as victims of child abuse and neglect. Mirroring the nation, the number of reports of child abuse and neglect in North Carolina continues to rise, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. In fiscal year 2009, the state had 67,397 reports of abuse or neglect, up from 58,815 in fiscal year 1998.
