Palm Bay – Police arrest a man for the murder of a 2 year old child.
28 year old Jason Padgett was arrested early Sunday morning in Palm Bay.
He’s charged with Felony Murder, Child Neglect, Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child and Aggravated Child Abuse.
On April 7th a two-year-old boy arrived at Holmes Regional Medical Center with severe head trauma.
He was later taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando where he died the next day.
An autopsy showed the child suffered from multiple brain hemorrhages from being severely shaken or from blunt force trauma.
There was also evidence of possible sexual abuse.
Police tell FOX 35 the child’s mother left her 2-year-old son with Padgett while she went to work the night of April 7th.
Witnesses told detectives Padgett had been smoking marijuana while “caring” for the child.
Padgett claims the child fell off the toilet and hit his head on the floor but at the time admits he was not concerned the child needed medical attention even though the child was bleeding and became unresponsive.

Last week, I marveled at the stunning pattern of collective denial that allows the Catholic church to continue to exist in its present form, despite a record of willfully harming children that now traces all the way to Pope Benedict XVI.

Today, I came across the latest example of this, as Newsweek has published an infuriating piece of propaganda (a web exclusive, probably because the paper caught fire every time they tried to commit it to print), designed to mitigate the Catholic church’s vile betrayals by distorting facts and by using the victims’ silence and defenselessness against them.

Let’s take a look at “Mean Men” by Pat Wingert: “The priesthood is being cast as the refuge of pederasts. In fact, priests seem to abuse children at the same rate as everyone else.”

Before I even get started, let’s take their (completely false) premise for granted. Wouldn’t it be reasonable to expect that child molestation would be a whole lot less common among priests? It’s the exact opposite of what a priest is supposed to do. This report is akin to taking comfort in the knowledge that Secret Service agents are just as likely to murder the President as anyone else.

But let’s just break this down. According to the poll Newsweek cites,  ”64 percent of those queried thought Catholic priests ‘frequently’ abused children.” Newsweek rebuts those poor, misinformed souls handily: (emphasis mine)

Yet experts say there’s simply no data to support the claim at all. No formal comparative study has ever broken down child sexual abuse by denomination, and only the Catholic Church has released detailed data about its own. But based on the surveys and studies conducted by different denominations over the past 30 years, experts who study child abuse say they see little reason to conclude that sexual abuse is mostly a Catholic issue. “We don’t see the Catholic Church as a hotbed of this or a place that has a bigger problem than anyone else,” said Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. “I can tell you without hesitation that we have seen cases in many religious settings, from traveling evangelists to mainstream ministers to rabbis and others.”

There are several huge problems with this. First of all, as this article mentions over and over again, there is little data to support this “claim,” but there’s also little data to disprove it, partially because child molestation is the most underreported crime. It is, therefore, impossible to prove this, but anyone familiar with these cases knows that priests can exert forms of coercion that normal child-rapists cannot, so the rate of unreported cases is likely much greater. A responsible, disinterested journalist would point that out. Instead, Newsweek takes the silence of victimized children, bought with torture and threat of eternal damnation, and uses it against them.

A 13-year-old Yemeni girl who was forced into marriage died five days after her wedding when she suffered a rupture in her sex organs and hemorrhaging, a local rights organization said Thursday.

Ilham Mahdi al Assi died last Friday in a hospital in Yemen’s Hajja province, the Shaqaeq Arab Forum for Human Rights said in a statement quoting a medical report.

She was wedded the previous Monday in a traditional arrangement known as a “swap marriage,” in which the brother of the bride also married the sister of the groom, it said.

“The child Ilham has died as a martyr due to the abuse of children’s lives in Yemen,” the non-governmental organization said.

Her death was a “flagrant example” of the results of opposing the ban on child marriage in Yemen, which was leading to “killing child females,” it said.

The marriage of young girls is widespread in Yemen, which has a strong tribal structure.

The death of a 12-year-old girl in childbirth in September illustrated the case of the country’s “brides of death,” many of whom were married off even before puberty.

Controversy heightened in Yemen recently over a law banning child marriage in the impoverished country through setting a minimum age of 17 for women and 18 for men.

Thousands of conservative women demonstrated outside parliament last month, answering a call by Islamist parties opposing the law.

A lesser number of women rallied at the same venue a few days later in support of the law, the implementation of which was blocked pending a request by a group of politicians for a review.

Wednesday evening, Michael supposedly witnessed his ex (the exact nature of the relationship between the two has yet to be disclosed) kissing her new boyfriend. Incensed, Michael stormed into the woman’s home and into the bedroom of her 5-year-old daughter.

When the woman walked into the residence to see what was up, Michael was allegedly standing in the child’s room, over the child, fully dressed with his hands on his pants as if he was pulling them up or down. The child’s underwear had been pulled down.

The woman ordered Michael out of her home and called police. When police arrived at the home, the woman told them Michael had a crowbar and had been acting combative. When deputies approached Michael, he made a rather stunning admission.

PLATTE CITY, Mo. – A Palette City father has been charged with subjecting his teenage daughter to some extreme forms of punishment as well as possessing child pornography.

Police allege that 42-year-old James Marquis would routinely punish his 16-year-old daughter by making her stand in the corner of her room for 10 to 12 hours at a time. He would monitor her with a camera and if she left the corner, he would proceed to beat her with a belt.

During last Christmas break, it is alleged he made her do this 12 days in a row. The girl told police this type of abuse has been going on for years and that she had contemplated suicide, but had not done so because of her love for her dog – a dog Marquis sold on Craigslist as punishment. Marquis didn’t feel like what he was doing was wrong, stating that he felt it was adequate punishment for the girl’s bad grades at school.

Police found the child porn on his computer while they were conducting a search. he claims he has no idea how it got there. Police have charged him with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of child pornography.

Thomas A. Ott, a Cape Henlopen paraprofessional and the head football coach, is charged with several counts of rape and other charges.

Police say Lewes man had been abusing teenage girl since 2006

The head football coach at Cape Henlopen High School was arrested Thursday night and charged with raping a teenage girl, police said.

Thomas A. Ott, 39, of Lewes, was charged with four counts each of second-degree rape and unlawful sexual contact, two counts of fourth-degree rape, and one count each of continuous sexual abuse of a child and unlawful imprisonment, said state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton.

According to court records, the victim’s brother called for help Thursday after hearing his sister screaming in the basement of a Lewes home.

Police say the abuse had been continuous since 2006.

Arriving troopers found the girl in a “hysterical state” with residue of duct tape around her wrists from where Ott allegedly had “taped her hands above her head and taped them together around a pole” before sexually assaulting her, police said in court records.

Cape Henlopen Superintendent George Stone said that to his knowledge no adult in the district had any knowledge of problems with Ott or the victim.

Ott, a paraprofessional in the Cape Henlopen School District who worked with special education students, has been suspended with pay, he said, adding that the school district plans to launch an internal investigation.

THE taxi driver who allegedly abducted and raped a 12-year-old girl, then buried her alive after he thought he had strangled her to death, was yesterday remanded in custody when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

The accused, 26-year-old Garsha Wilson, is charged with rape, abduction, attempted murder, malicious destruction of property, and cruelty to a child.

The police alleged that the child — who was reported missing from the transport centre in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew on March 22 — was abducted by Wilson, said to be a family friend.

It is alleged that Wilson took the child to Smokey Vale, St Andrew where he raped her and choked her until she was unconscious.

The accused, believing that the child was dead, reportedly buried her in shallow grave and covered it with stones.

The girl regained consciousness and dug herself out and was assisted by residents who took her to the police where the matter was reported.

Tennessee--A 31-year-old convicted sex offender has been arrested after police say he posed as a professional photographer on MySpace in order to meet and then sexually assault a 17-year-old girl.

Samuel Gregory Dorsey, of Nashville, is accused of luring the alleged victim to a local motel after he convinced her to meet him there for a photo shoot.

It was at the motel where the reported assault occurred.

According to WSMV-TV, Dorsey may have also assaulted another woman on February 1st, after luring her also through MySpace.

Dorsey’s fake modeling company on MySpace is called, “ModelvilleUSA“, and on the profile he list himself as age 27 and has even amassed over 600 friends.

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP Two 18-year-old Pennsylvania residents were charged with rape of a child after they were accused of having a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl, state police at Towanda said Friday.

Xavier Lyon and Aaron Kenyon also were charged with aggravated indecent assault and corruption of minors. The incidents allegedly occurred in September 2009.

After arraignment, Lyon was sent to Bradford County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. Kenyon was released after posting bail, police said.

Painted post State police at Painted Post charged two men with possession of a sexual performance by a child.

Police said they found computer equipment containing child pornography when they used a warrant to search the home of Joseph Giardina II, 41, of Coopers Plains, on April 5. Police seized the computer equipment.

KENT, WA–A man accused of raping a 4-year-old girl and broadcasting it live online to a California pedophile pleaded guilty Friday in King County Superior Court.

Brian K. Beston, 36, of Kent, pleaded guilty to first-degree child rape, first-degree child molestation, sexual exploitation of a minor and dealing in child pornography.

Prosecutors will recommend that he be sentenced to a minimum of 26 years when he appears before Judge Regina Cahan for sentencing on May 14. Beston could also face up to life in prison.

His wife, Hollie Beston, 31, of Burien, also is accused of taking an active part in the sexual abuse and faces the same charges as her husband. She is scheduled for a court hearing on April 20.

According to court documents, the husband and wife abused the girl between June 2009 and Oct. 23, 2009, and sent child pornography to another accused child molester in San Diego whom they met online.

It was FBI agents investigating the San Diego suspect who brought the Bestons’ case to the attention of Seattle police.

The Bestons allegedly met the California man on Craigslist where the man, posing as a single mother under the handle “jennymomsd,” had posted an entry looking for other parents in both San Diego and Seattle, according to investigators.

Brian Beston first came across jennymomsd, and introduced the person to Hollie Beston, investigators said, initiating a correspondence via e-mail and instant messenger between the three of them.

The couple began exchanging child porn with jennymomsd and soon the Internet contact “was accepted as a fellow child lover,” the court documents said. Jennymomsd then requested pornographic images of children and began receiving pictures of a young girl, according to detectives.

Jennymomsd claimed to have a brother interested in having sex with children, prosecutors said, and the conversations eventually turned to talks of this brother visiting Seattle to have sex with the young girl featured in the photographs sent by the Bestons.

But Jennymomsd remained skeptical of the authenticity of the Bestons’ photos; he thought the images may have been pulled from the Internet, he told investigators. When he expressed his skepticism to Brian Beston, the Kent man offered to present the girl via a live video feed, the documents said.

Brian Beston, using the camera on his computer, provided a live feed showing him sexually molesting the girl for approximately five minutes, detectives said, even briefly holding up a sheet of paper with the day’s date written on it to prove the authenticity of the feed.

Zerlinda C. White, 23, has been arrested for Child Abuse Resulting in Death of her almost 2-month-old baby.

ST. ALBANS — On April 7, St. Albans Police Department responded to a call from Thomas Memorial Hospital regarding a deceased infant. Investigators from the State Medical Examiner’s Office believed the infant was a victim of abuse that caused the death, according to a news release from the St. Albans Police Department.

An autopsy confirmed that the child, Ayden White, two days away from turning 2-months-old, died of “an abusive closed head injury.”

The Kanawha Bureau of Investigation arrested the boy’s mother, Zerlinda C. White, 23, of St. Albans, for Child Abuse Resulting in Death. The felony is punishable by 10-40 years.

The death occurred at a residence in the 2700 block of Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans.

Police say Richard Goodman Senior shot his son Thursday night in Middlesboro before running to Tennessee, where he was caught.

Neighbors say a man shot and killed his son and left the scene.

Police say Richard Goodman Senior shot his son, Richard Goodman Junior, then headed south Thursday night.

Middlesboro Police sent out a description of the vehicle Goodman was driving.

Cumberland National Park Rangers spotted the truck heading through the tunnel.

They arrested Goodman in Claiborne County with help from the sheriff’s department.

“We didn’t even turn our blue lights on. He simply pulled over to the side when he knew he was being followed. Put his hands up and that’s all there was to it,” Chief Ranger Dirk Wiley said.

Police found the gun Goodman allegedly used in the truck.
