Child abuse linked to pornography?
Robert Gingrich, a psychologist who specializes in sex-related problems but has no specific knowledge of Thomas Ott’s case, said many male sexual abusers first become frequent users of pornography.
“It’s like alcohol. Some of us can handle it, and some of us can’t. I think pornography’s quite toxic. I’ve seen it do damage to marriages, and I’ve seen a lot of men I’ve worked with compulsively using it,” Gingrich said.
He said up until the early 1990s most pornography involved only adults. But growth of the internet offered more variety, including child pornography.
“I know in this era of Tiger Woods there’s this question, does sexual addiction really exist? Yes, it does. I’d rather try to get somebody off cocaine than pornography,” he said.
