An investigation by an independent Dutch body finds a sharp increase in Catholic Church abuse cases as 2,000 people have filed complaints this past year. The Deetman Commission was set up at the request of Dutch Catholics Bishops Conference In March 2010 to investigate alleged abuses. They have now received about 2,000 complaints against the church in the Netherlands, The Huffington Post reported. The head of the inquiry, Wim Deetman, said that previously, between 1995 and 2009, an average of 20 people per year filed formal complaints against the church. Most of the reported child abuse took place decades ago in the Catholic Church school system, the state-funded BBC said.
