Although as a teen I was finally placed in foster-homes, what preceded it was horrific. Although I tell some of the stories rather graphically and disturbingly, the book does have both a success- and a redemption-story built into it: I became an Ivy-League educated professor and was actually able to reconcile with my father after decades of harrowing nightmares. (Unfortunately the nightmares have returned since his untimely, accidental death.) It is not close to having been eliminated, and while we hear stories about it from time-to-time, I haven't heard a robust discussion about the phenomenon itself in quite some time.
