Amid a big rise in the number of reports about potential child abuse or online grooming, how can people stay safe?

Between April 2009 and March 2010, there were more than 6,000 reports sent to the police agency which protects youngsters on the web, nearly 900 more than the previous year. Ceop said a quarter (1,536) related to grooming and another quarter (1,553) related to the possession and distribution of images. The rise was partly down to a greater awareness of the problem, more children using the internet, and young people increasingly posting explicit images of themselves online which could end up on paedophile networks.
