A young mother and her boyfriend were arrested and charged Saturday with the physical abuse of a 19-month-old child.

Ashley Schumm, 24, of Prattville, and her boyfriend G.W. Stubbs, 20, of Eclectic, were charged with aggravated child abuse for the “torture, willful abuse of a child under 18,” according to Chief Deputy Ricky Lowery of the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was “just a little baby,” Sheriff’s Department Investigator Jeremy Amerson said. “There was bruising on (the child’s) face, chest, back, pretty much everywhere except (the child’s) legs.”

Hello, I am the childs aunt, his father is my brother in law. My husband and I are moving to alabama where we will get custody of him. His mother will not be allowed near him (if and when she gets out).

It’s funny how NOW the child has family from the father’s side. If I remember, the fahter is a drug addict with no future. Not that the mother is better, but he is not a candidate for the father of the year. in fact, I believe he has seen the child maybe once or twice at most. I dont’ think he understand what chils support is all about.

  4. Intolerant of Stupidity Says:

Newspapers are not always accurate and people’s accusations and storys aren’t either. Who is to say that the mother even had anything to do with it? From what I understand, she took him to the hospital because she was worried about him and didn’t know what happened. It’s funny how people can decide who is guilty and who’s not, especially when they know absolutely nothing about the situation or anyone’s involvement and trust information from unreliable sources. A mother who would take her child to the hospital, regardless of the possible consequences for the safety and well-being of the child obviously cares about him and should not be forbidden to see him. The best thing to do, if you really want the truth, is to talk to reliable sources, like the mother herself, or understand that there are sometimes things that are said that are as rediculous as they sound and are far from the truth. Where was the father’s family when the single mother had no help and needed them? Where was the father’s family when Vincent had no idea who they were? Why after all this time have they decided that they know what’s best? It’s a little late to start acting like they know Vincent’s life at all and a little late to start trying to make big and important decisions. Of course, it’s never too late to get off their a**es and make it a point to be in his life…..to actually spend some time with him.

  5. American Heartbeat Says:

No, newspapers aren’t always accurate. Sad thing is that the mother in this situation is unstable…she needs help. Fact…the night before this happened, the mother had called Vincent’s father to try to make arrangements for him to take Vincent, because she could not handle him anymore…further, she was telling him that angels were coming to get her…she needs help. There is a whole lot more to this story and innocent people are being hurt because of this young woman and her mental instability…sad, Vincent is the one paying the biggest price…but, her young boyfriend may have to pay with a price on his head for doing nothing but trying to take care of a little boy that wasn’t even his…he was the one giving 80% of the care for this boy when they were together…picture this: the boyfriend’s 77 year old Grandfather witnessed her yanking on Vincent and about to slap him when she realized he was standing there watching…wish you people could know the whole story…In the end, God will sort it out.

  6. The fathers family Says:

I wish people wouldnt talk about what they dont know. Just so everyone knows Vincent is doing very well now, talking, laughing, playing with his cousins (on the fathers side.. fyi) maybe the “fathers side” didnt know how vincent was doing because “mommy” never answered their calls.. did you ever think of that?? Why you think that this “mentally unstable” woman would tell anyone that she wasnt doing ok? Dont you think as soon as anyone heard that she was trying to pawn him off on his father they would step into action.. like they did. how dare anyone speak ill of any of this family.
