After seeing the picture of this sweet angel, I almost couldn’t write the story. You see, my nine year old daughter is going to spend the night at her best friend’s house tonight, for her 10th birthday party, and Charleeni could be a twin of the girl. I was stunned. Saddened. Sickened.

Charleeni Ferreira is ten years old……and she is dead. She has been murdered by her sperm donor and step-monster. The autopsy indicates that she has suffered years of abuse at the hands of these two repulsive oxygen thieves. Charleeni was found unconscious in her home and transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Attending physicians noted numerous old and new injuries, including broken bones, bruises and severe head trauma. She also showed signs of sexual abuse, but neither of the adults has been arrested for a sex crime.

None of these things caused her death, though. She died from pneumonia and an infection caused by her fractured ribs puncturing her lung. The head trauma was a 7 inch long cut that had been stuffed with gauze, and covered by a hair weave. Both her arm and her pelvis were broken. I cannot imagine the pain this little girl must have been in….she must have hurt all over. It would have hurt her to sit or lie down. It would have hurt her to stand. It would have hurt her to BREATHE. I was run over by a car when I was 10. Both of my lungs collapsed. It was terrifying – in addition to the pain, I also couldn’t breathe – I had to fight for every breath, and still felt as if I were suffocating. This poor child was beaten to death by the people who were supposed to protect her, and her last moments had to have been unbearable.

The male abusive bastard, Domingo Ferreira, 43, and his slag Margarita Garabito, also 43, have both been arrested and charged with murder. The ME said it was the worst case of abuse he had ever seen.

Not surprisingly, DHS had called to the house both in 2006 and 2007. Also not surprisingly, they are trying as hard as they can to cover their collective arses at this point. No details, confidentiality, privacy laws, yadda, yadda, yadda. Bite me, DHS. If you had done your job properly, this girl might still be alive.

Charleeni had apparently also confided in several schoolmates about the abuse, but begged them not to tell anyone. (Parents – talk with your kids, dammit! Tell them that if one of their friends is being abused, that they should tell an adult. Whether the victim wants them to or not. It might save a life.) She told one of them that her step-brother had raped her repeatedly. I guess that explains why neither of the two arrested have been charged with a sex crime, huh? I hope they arrest the little pervy step-brother, and try his sorry butt as an adult, too.

Authorities say the autopsy revealed injuries that indicate years of abuse (see previous story). Investigators say Charlenni Ferreira (right) was found unconscious in her home, in the 4700 block of C Street, and taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Doctors immediately contacted authorities because the child had numerous injuries: severe head trauma, bruises, several broken bones, and possible sexual abuse. An autopsy revealed that she had died of an infection from a collapsed lung caused by fractured ribs. Homicide captain James Clark says charges of murder and reckless endangerment have been filed against the girl’s father, Domingo Ferreira, 53, and stepmother Margarita Garabito, 43: “It’s extremely sad. I have over 20 years on this job. This is one of the worst cases I have seen. It’s unconscionable to think that someone could do this to a ten-year-old girl.” He says the investigation is continuing. Even with her injuries Charlenni attended Feltonville Intermediate School. School officials say they are cooperating with the investigation. The city’s Department of Human Services is also investigating.  A law enforcement source says there apparently was a history of abuse in the family. Ann Marie Ambrose, commissioner of the city’s Department of Human Services, released a statement expressing regret over the death of the girl. She said the agency is fully cooperating with the district attorney and the police in the investigation.
