A North Miami Beach couple severely beat their 9-year-old son, who was found so starved that he weighed just 35 pounds, police said. Marsee Strong, 34, and Edward Bailey, 40, appeared in court today, charged with aggravated abuse and neglect of a child. They were arrested Saturday night on charges of aggravated child abuse. In the last three years, 23 teachers, coaches and school officials in North Jersey have been arrested or pleaded guilty to sex-related charges involving children. Statewide, nearly a dozen teachers or coaches have made headlines since the beginning of December, accused of everything from videotaping boys showering in a school locker room to having sex with teens they were chaperoning on a field trip.SESAME believes the power imbalance between a teacher and student (of any age) creates a climate that can facilitate sexual misconduct by the teacher; behavior that can facilitate sexual misconduct by the teacher; behavior that is psychologically equivalent to incest.

HARTFORD, CT — Joshua Komisarjevsky was formally sentenced to death Friday for the home invasion attack that left Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her daughters, Hayley and Micahela, dead in their Cheshire home in the summer of 2007. On the day he was sentenced to execution Komisarjevsky insisted that no one was supposed to die during the July 2007 deadly home invasion. “I was a condemned man long before this day,” Komisarjevsky, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, said while standing before the judge. Convicted child molester Gary Glitter is in line to make hundreds of thousands of pounds when his 1972 hit Rock and Roll Part II is played at the Super Bowl final next month. The American Football championship is the biggest event in America’s sporting year, and is watched by around 100 million fans worldwide. FEDERAL WAY—A 33-year-old Federal Way woman, a certified nursing assistant, has been charged with assault after she allegedly poured cleaning powder in to the mouth of a 4-week-old infant she was babysitting. Charging documents said police were called to an apartment complex on Military Road South on Jan. 10 by a woman who reported her neighbor, Mabinty Williams, “knocked on her door and said there was a baby in her apartment and she didn’t know how it got there.” The neighbor also said Williams called the 4-week-old baby “evil.” READ MORE HERE
BROOKLYN, NY–Friends, relatives and neighbors were horrified after a mother abandoned her two little girls in the midst of a Canarsie housing project has the neighborhood. Wearing parkas and Ugg boots and each clutching a fistful of diapers, family members say 26-year-old Dalisha Adams left them as an angry message for their father. Bertha Davia, the little girls’ grandmother, spoke to PIX11 at the same corner where the girls were abandoned. “It’s making my heart have pain,” she wailed as she recounted how police came knocking at her door late Sunday night to say 4-year-old Diani and 3 year old Dominae had been ditched by their mother and were taken into protective custody. SANTA ANA, CA — An Orange County jury failed to reach a verdict and a judge declared a mistrial Monday in the case of a young mother accused of suffocating her newborn daughter and dumping her in a trash bin. Superior Court Judge Thomas Goethals declared the mistrial in the case of Juana Perez Valencia, 21, of Anaheim, who faced a first-degree murder charge stemming from her infant girl’s death. SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – A former high-school teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges that he engaged in what prosecutors describe as “substantial unlawful sex acts” with a 14-year-old girl. Ricardo Aldana, 37, has been charged with seven felony counts of lewd acts on a child, and faces up to seven years in state prison if convicted. An Afghan father, his wife and their son have been jailed for life after a jury found them guilty of ‘honor killing’ three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as a ‘despicable’ and ‘heinous’ crime. The jury had taken 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58, his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder. The four bodies were found in June 2009 in a car submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario, where the family had stopped for the night on their way home from Niagara Falls. An award-winning high school teacher has been accused of having ‘intimate sexual relationships’ with two of her students, kissing a third on the lips and exchanging inappropriate texts and emails with a third. Joanne Léger-Legault, from Ottawa, Canada, was stripped of her teaching permit and fired by the city’s public school board over the allegations. She is a former teacher of A.Y. Jackson Secondary School and Merivale High School. She pleaded no contest and did not dispute any of the facts when they were presented to the Ontario College of Teachers discipline committee. A soccer coach has been charged with forcing a 13-year-old girl to make pornographic films of herself and posting them online for other paedophiles. Robert Vincent Peace is also alleged to have had more than 2,000 child porn images and videos at his California home. The 45-year-old, who is from the UK, worked as a youth football coach with girls and boys teams in the Orange County area. He was arrested after a member of his own family said they discovered a stash of child porn on his computer and handed it over to police. Investigators said they found 1,500 images and 300 videos on the computer taken from his home in Lake Forest, California. READ MORE HERE
FALL RIVER – A 24-year-old Fall River man was arrested on Saturday for the alleged abuse of a child. Police began an investigation into the abuse of a three-year-old boy after he was hospitalized with injuries on Friday morning. Tracking, apprehending and prosecuting those who view child pornography is a complicated and, at times, overwhelming process. Law enforcement officials aren’t resting on their laurels, however – the Idaho’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force (ICAC) aggressively devises new ways to catch predators in the act. A 25-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly advertising on Craigslist for ‘fathers willing to share their daughters’ for sex. Brandon J. Bergthold from Will County, Illinois was caught by an undercover cop posing as a father happy to turn over his daughter. When he was arrested outside a motel, Bergthold thanked cops for saving him from his addiction to child porn, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The arrest followed two months of investigations by Will and Cook County sheriff police, who had been monitoring Craigslist, a classifieds website. READ MORE HERE
A police officer under investigation for sexual misconduct with a teenage minor was shot and killed while on duty by fellow officers Saturday as they tried to arrest him on California’s central coast, authorities said. The officer was manning a DUI checkpoint when the shooting occurred shortly after 1 a.m. He was declared dead after emergency surgery at Marian Medical Center, Santa Maria police Chief Danny Macagni said in a statement. The officer, a four-year Santa Maria department veteran, had just learned of the internal investigation of an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, and it became necessary to arrest him immediately, Macagni said. A mother was arrested after she was captured on video shouting encouragement at her daughter during a fistfight with another teen, telling her to ‘hit harder’ and ‘bite her’. Sandra Padilla Miranda, 38, was arrested on Thursday after police discovered she allegedly asked the girl to come to her apartment complex in Orlando, Florida, so she could finish off a fight with ehr daughter that started at school. Maine State Police investigators have been analyzing blood that was found in the home where baby Ayla Reynolds was reported missing six weeks ago, an official said Saturday. The revelation comes as investigators say they believe her father, who claims he was home when she disappeared but doesn’t know what happened to her, is lying to them. Sandusky is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with young boys he met through the “Second Mile” charity he founded in 1977, and using the athletic facilities at Penn State as a haven for his abusive actions. A high school student killed himself by jumping off a cliff as his mother and sister helplessly looked on in horror. Witnesses said John Albrigo, 18, ‘flew off the cliff like a bird’ after talking to them for hours about his depression and having ignored pleas from his desperate mother Rosemarie. A woman in Woods Cross, Utah, could face child endangerment charges after she made her son run alongside her car when she grabbed his belt and started to drive down the street. The woman, who has not been identified, was angry at the 9-year-old boy because he missed his school bus. Questions surround the death of a 17-year-old Colorado girl who jumped out of a moving car and was struck dead by oncoming traffic on a major highway. Catrina Fox was sitting in the passenger seat as her mother drove on a Colorado highway when she suddenly opened the door and jumped out in the very early hours of Saturday morning.
