Corporal punishment. Now that’s one nasty, knee jerk, flashpoint of a topic. It’s maligned by many and praised by others. It’s even been known to ruin a few marriages.

I am relatively new to parenting, having been a mom for all of 19 months; therefore, I haven’t encountered a situation that would call for me to haul off and hit my child. But when it comes to discipline, there are two things I know for sure, and a couple of other things I’m not so sure about. One, spanking a child without them understanding why you’re doing so is abusive. And two, slapping a child across the face — especially a toddler — is parenting by humiliation.

A Chandler man has been arrested on charges of child abuse after police said he put his 7-month-old son in the freezer and forgot about him.

When interviewed, Chance Kracke told police he was high on methamphetamine when he went into the kitchen to make himself some food, according to the police report. Kracke told police he put his son in the freezer because the kitchen floor was too dirty to place him on it.

A Fort Collins woman worked as a Poudre School District bus aide for two months after being charged with child abuse because PSD officials didn’t find out about the case against her until June – after her conviction.

Under PSD guidelines, parents are to be notified “when a current or former employee is arrested or has charges brought against him or her because of alleged misconduct with a student or other minor.” Green was a floating bus aide who worked out of PSD’s south bus terminal.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A Pennsylvania couple secretly videotaped a Roman Catholic priest having sex with their 18-year-old daughter in the basement of their home and are now suing, saying he got her pregnant. The lawsuit, filed Thursday in Berks County Court, alleges that the Rev. Luis A. Bonilla Margarito carried on a sexual relationship with the teen while he was the chaplain of Reading Central Catholic High School and she was a senior there.

Charred Remains Positively Identified As Missing Teen, Alicia DeBolt

GREAT BEND, Kan. - Last Saturday, the parents of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt contacted police when she did not arrive home in time for her midnight curfew. When they had last seen her, she was leaving for a party in the company of a 19-year-old man. On Tuesday, charred remains were found behind some gravel piles at a paving company five miles away from the city.

IRON RIDGE, Wis. – Taylor Becker,4, was with her parents visiting family friends when she was attacked by a 5-year-old Boxer named Rocky. She had been playing in the backyard of the home alone with the dog that was tied to a pole on a leash and chain. No one knows what happened to trigger Rocky, but investigators believe the dog slipped out of its leash and then attacked the girl. A neighbor saw the attack from the roadway and ran to the family’s front door, telling them to call 911.

A BRITISH paedophile was unmasked today as the mastermind behind a global child pornography ring that swapped as many as 100,000 indecent images over Facebook.

Ian Green, 45, used the social networking site to share vile photos with others in the US, Australia, and Canada.

The unemployed man brazenly posted images of child abuse on his wall and exchanged others via the site’s email system.

Austin man pleads guilty to 18 counts of child abuse

A 37-year-old Austin man plead guilty to 13 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and five counts of sexual assault of a child in District Judge Jack Robison’s court in Hays County.

Hays County Officials said Jimmy Duran Lopez began the abuse when the child was 8, and the abuse continued for six years.

Caledonia, Mississippi (The Weekly Vice) – Angela Marie Shoemake, a 41-year-old Mississippi woman was jailed last week after she allegedly took pornographic images of her own two sons with plans to send them to a man over the Internet.

According to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Shoemake was arrested after her boyfriend found explicit photographs of her 8 and 6-year-old sons on her computer.

Frozen Fruit Bars Recalled for Typhoid Fever Outbreak

At least nine people in California and Nevada have fallen ill with typhoid fever.

LOS ANGELES — Fruiti Pops Inc. is recalling its mamey fruit pops due to a link to a recent typhoid fever outbreak.

The recall, announced Thursday, is due to contaminated mamey fruit pulp from Goya Foods, recalled earlier this month. Mamey is a tropical fruit from Central America often used in smoothies.

The fruit bars were distributed in California, Arizona, and Texas in retail stores, ice cream trucks, and vending machines, the company said.

Mom: Boy charged with throwing acid thought it was water

13-year-old boy charged with chemical attack on two other kids at South Side apartment complex.

CHICAGO - A 13-year-old boy is charged in the acid attack that severely burned a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. The suspect was cited in a juvenile delinquency petition, accused of heinous battery, and turned over to Juvenile Court for processing.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—A Wilmington man who raped three girls, including his 5-year-old niece, has been sentenced to 96 years to life in prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Carlos Aguirre Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Long Beach after the judge called him a monster. He was convicted last month of a dozen charges, including rape, drug possession and possession of child pornography.

RED BLUFF, Calif. — A Red Bluff man is facing a child abuse charge after police say he severely beat a two-year-old girl in his care.Investigators first learned about the alleged abuse when they were called to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Tuesday evening. MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — State Police say a Berkeley County man allegedly forced his two malnourished children to live in a concrete basement.

Jesse Arlo Lafferty was being held on $140,000 bond Wednesday at the Eastern Regional Jail. The 32-year-old was arraigned Monday on charges of child abuse, child neglect and conspiracy.

Tacoma, WA – Tyler Savage, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Monday night after leading police to the body of 16-year-old Kimmie Daley – a developmentally disabled teen who functioned at the level of a 9-year-old. Monroe, WA – Ivan Belardo, 37, was babysitting for his ex-girlfriend’s twin boys early Monday morning when one of the tots reportedly hit him square in the baby-maker with an aluminum bicycle tire pump, supposedly drawing blood.
