MICHIGAN–Police: Dad used toddler as shield against Taser
Warren — A Belleville father is facing child abuse charges on claims he used his toddler as a shield when police attempted to stun him with a Taser.
Joseph Cox, 27, is charged with second-degree child abuse, home invasion and resisting and obstructing police in connection with the incident that occurred Saturday afternoon at his ex-wife’s Warren home, Warren Police Detective Sgt. Heidi Metz said.
Cox’s former wife refused to let him inside when he showed up at her home in the 23000 block of Bolam. Cox then ripped the front door open and forced his way into the house, and his ex-wife called police.

When officers arrived at the home, Metz said Cox resisted arrest and took a “fighting stance.” Then he grabbed his child as a shield when officers pulled out a Taser in an attempt to subdue him.
Police did not deploy the Taser, and the child was not harmed.
