West Melbourne man held on child abuse charges

A 38-year-old West Melbourne man will go before a judge today after police said an infant in his care was hospitalized with serious head injuries.
Shawn Eric Roush, of 7911 Maplewood Dr., was charged late Tuesday with aggravated child abuse and child neglect after an investigation of suspicious injuries sustained by the five-month old toddler, reports show.
Police said that for 36 hours, Roush denied knowing what caused the injuries to the child.
Later, Roush told officers he lost his balance on a flight of stairs, causing the infant’s head to strike the railing, reports show.
