SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A judge has ordered a Sacramento couple charged in the child abuse and murder case of a 5-year-old boy to submit DNA samples and dental impressions.
The deputy district attorney for Sacramento County assigned to the case asked the judge for the samples to determine who is responsible for the infliction of injuries to the child.
The child’s mother, Amber Ingram, is charged with child endangerment and murder. Her boyfriend, Eduardo Zamora, is charged with murder and torture. Both are being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Court records obtained by KCRA 3 identify the child victim only as Braeden G. He died June 17, 2009, after being left by his mother in the care of Zamora. An examination of the child’s body revealed multiple bruises from head to toe in different stages of healing and significant internal injuries.Court records describe “the only areas of the child’s body not diagramed with injuries are the palms of his hands.”
Court records also show “although many injuries are acute, some may have occurred within a day or days from the time of death,” when Ingram was also caring for the child. Injuries include bite marks and multiple injuries of a unique shape that may be consistent with sex toys and other toys found in the couple’s home.
Prosecutors want to determine if there was a sexual element to the crime.
A relative who spoke to KCRA 3, but did not want to be identified, described the child as “all boy.” He said he loved to dig in the dirt and play with tools.
Ingram has denied hitting the boy, but told detectives she was aware Zamora had hit her son with his hand and with a belt. She never sought medical care for her son.
Both Ingram and Zamora will be in court in February for preliminary hearings.
