A Madison Heights woman has been charged with felony child abuse after an 8-month-old boy was treated for burns on New Year’s eve, the Amherst County sheriff’s office said Monday.
Officers were notified about 9 p.m. Thursday that the child was being treated in the emergency department of a local hospital.
Officers found the infant “had been burned in several locations on his body,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The child was transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center for further treatment. No information was available concerning the child’s condition Monday.
Sandrina Mae Busick, 19, of Old Wright Shop Road in Madison Heights, was charged with child abuse and neglect, according to the news release.
Busick was being held in the Amherst County Jail without bond pending a preliminary hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
