Franklin, IN (The Weekly Vice) – Lauren Gonzalez, a 19-year-old Franklin woman was jailed after she allegedly handled her 3-month-old daughter roughly, causing serious injuries to the infant.
According the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, investigators received a call from a Department of Child Services representative Wednesday, stating that the child, Isabela Gonzalez, was being treated at Riley Hospital for Children for what they believe to be non-accidental injuries.
Investigators say the child had several injuries in various stages of healing including skull fractures, breaks to her arm and leg bones, and stomach bruises that led to surgery to repair a possibly lacerated liver.
When investigators spoke with Gonzalez and her husband, Jose L. Gonzalez, both stated that Mrs. Gonzalez was the child’s primary provider and no one else cared for the baby without her present.
Gonzalez admitted to investigators that she ‘may’ have handled the baby too roughly because she was angry, ultimately causing the injuries.
Gonzalez was booked into jail and charged with battery. Her bond amount was set at $50,000.
