Child dead in apparent strangulation
MCMINNVILLE – Neighbors are shocked by the strangulation death of a 6-year old McMinnville girl. Police say she was found with a blanket and child’s belt around her neck.
McMinnville Police and Fire responded to 600 NE Summerfield Street with information that 6-year-old Samantha Kuberski was unconscious and not breathing.
The little girl was transported to the Willamette Valley Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Initial reports are that the victim’s mother was home with all four children at the time of incident, but family members say they didn’t see what happened to the 6-year old. The father arrived home just as medics were transporting the youngster to the hospital.
Brief statements were obtained from both parents as they were given a ride to the hospital by police. Detectives have since interviewed both parents more extensively.
The McMinnville Police Department was assisted by DHS child welfare protective service personnel and Juliette’s House to interview the children. Those children have been returned to the parents, who police do not consider suspects at this time in the suspicious death.
The incident remains under investigation. An examination of the victim by the State Medical Examiner’s office was scheduled Friday.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Detective Sam Elliott at (503) 434-7307.
